I revisit this documentary about once a year, so if I've posted it here before I apologize. I have great memories about the computers and the promises of the future from this era. When I have time, I want to write about early computers, BBS, early independent internet providers, and 'circle dialing'/long distance in rural areas.

During the big BBS boom of the 90's, I was stuck living out in very rural areas, very isolated, with few friends and a hostile relationship with my family. Online forums (in addition to AOL chatrooms) gave me access not only to society in general, but to a rapidly evolving online society in particular. If not for those experiences I might not have turned out to be the well-adjusted, caring person I am today. I might have rotted away in isolation until I was a hateful waste of a person, and I can't overstate how grateful I am for the tools that helped me escape that fate.
