One of the most incredible world map themes of all time.

After my WoW post earlier, I got to thinking about some of the fantastic music to come of the game over the years, particularly in Wrath of the Lich King and Mists of Pandaria, and anything by David Arkenstone. This is probably my all-time favorite track- It's the theme for Light's Hope Chapel, secret base of the Paladin Order. This song embodies the sadness, sense of sacrifice and hope of the paladin probably more than any other song in any other game.

We need some indie music in here. I've limited each game to a single pick. That was very difficult for many of these, which have stellar soundtracks throughout.

La Mulana - Takumi Naramura , Houryu Samejima - Mr. Explorer

Cave Story - Daisuke Amaya - Moonsong

VVVVVV - Souleye - Positive Force

Aquaria - Alec Holowka - The Traveller

Hollow Knight - Christopher Larkin - City of Tears

CrossCode - Deniz Akbulut - Mysterious Place

Crystal Project - Vindsvept - Across the Plains

Astalon: Tears of the Earth - Mat Kapp - Volition

Monster Sanctuary - Steven Melin, Peter Reid Jones - Mystical Workshop

Risk of Rain Returns - Chris Christodoulou - Surface Tension

Undertale - Toby Fox - Megalovania

Lyle in Cube Sector - arachno - A Sad Touch

Celeste - Lena Raine - Reach for the Summit

Well, keep posting additional songs from these games over time! This is a great list to start! 😀

I'd rather add more excellent indie games.

Castle in the Darkness - Mat Kapp - The Trees Can See

VVVVVV was such a fantastic little game with a perfect soundtrack for the vibe it had going. This is one of my favorites from the soundtrack, too.

Let's not forget the original Original Soundtrack for Super Meat Boy by Danny Baranowsky. I don't know what happened between him and the staff of Team Meat to warrant losing this OST in releases after the Xbox 360 arcade version, but the newer OST just doesn't hit like these tracks did.

I should stress that Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence has an awesome soundtrack.

I finally started NieR: Replicant a couple weeks ago, and I've been simply blown away by its soundtrack. Nearly every track is incredible, and I find myself standing around in every new area for a long while just taking in the music. Here's the desert temple I puzzle-solved my way through the other day:

Been busting through FF5 for the first time since it came out in the PS1 release.

This time I picked up the GBA version which apparently is the best way to play it.

Such an underrated entry in the series. The game has a few world themes, but this is easily my favorite.
