I don't know what it is with foods based on sodas. Candies often work well for these flavors (like root beer barrels), but not otherwise.

I remember a few years back Pop Tarts had flavors based on Orange Crush and Root Beer. They were not great.

Drinks based on candies and sweets, though? Often good!

That video may be the most out-there Townsends video, but most of his videos have recipes that are a lot more sane. It's a great crossover between history and cooking!
