Hackers take control of robot vacuums

I’m sure it felt like a scene out of Maximum Overdrive. But seriously, as more low end manufacturers get into the connected home device market, I feel like these stories will be more common. It’s hard to sell security until it’s too late.

Ecovacs robot vacuums in multiple US cities were hacked in the space of a few days, with the attacker physically controlling them and yelling obscenities through their onboard speakers.

It would have been much worse, he said, if they had decided to quietly observe his family inside their home.
Whew, lads. Little does he know that this happens all the freaken time. I don't like the idea of being afraid of technology, but man people make it so hard to just look at a thing and feel fine about it.
