Microsoft to shut down Skype after 21 years

Early Skype was dope. I also remember using the paid phone time if for some reason I didn't have access to a cellphone. But it doesn't feel like Microsoft ever really got the most out of their investment with Skype, and it's kind of just withered on the vine for years.

Fun fact: apparently LeBron James' NBA career will exceed the time we had Skype. I'm not a sportsball guy, but that's also a hell of a run.

Skype filled an important niche for a time, but it was a security catastrophe from beginning to end. Once it came to light that Skype couldn't be trusted with literally anything, people fled in droves and Discord was waiting with open arms. Here's a Wikipedia page that lays out the whole shebang, specifically the linked section and the one right after it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyp...ping_by_design
