Lunar: Remastered Collection and the Return of Team Valiant Plays!

Helloooo my fellow Valiants! For the first time in decades, Lunar is in the mainstream video game news again, and it's WEIRD. I, of course, bought it on Steam immediately, and if budget permits I may pick up a physical copy for old times' sake. As most of you may be aware, I kinda like this franchise.

That being said, thanks to popular demand, I will be playing it first time on stream. I imagine it will be very similar to my GOTM stream, but you will be seeing my reactions to new VA, the much-touted QOL changes, and everything that comes with- for better or worse.

Tune in Mondays, starting April 21st, 8:30PM Eastern, and I look forward to seeing you all again, I've missed you!

    Looking forward to the stream!

I'm just about to sit down with a few hours of the game, myself. I'll post any opinions and feedback I have on this version here.

One of the reasons I'm opting for the Steam version first is for potential modding applications. I doubt it will be long before someone figures out a way to mod back in the original voice acting for those that want it, as well as any other QOL features that come to mind.

My physical Switch copy arrives tomorrow, and I plan on playing the heck out of it all night and all day Sunday. I'm so excited that these games are back in circulation after 20+years of obscurity.

In my far off dreams, we'd have another Lunar game to play at this point. I'm just happy to get anything after so long.

Many PSP games later got a second wind when they were released on Steam. It's been a long time, but I think GungHo should consider doing this for Silver Star Harmony, too. I still have to play that one. I'll probably emulate it. I'm glad to hear the menu-ing sounds improved.

The voice acting in the game has been fine so far. I just heard Ghaleon and Kyle in my last play sessions.

While the performances were fine, something has definitely been lost in the execution for many of the line-readings. I'm clearly biased as a fan of the original games, but I still really wish GungHo had worked out a deal to include the Working Designs dubs. Ghaleon sounds fine, but the new voice actor doesn't have the same underlying sass as Jon Truitt when he delivered the lines.

As someone whose first and only experience with these two Lunar games was from the GotM streams, I'm eager to hear the new recordings to see if I would like them more than the originals, as well as see where the pop culture reference re-writes lie.

That's not a meme, that's a real picture of me in bed, missing John Truitt

Well, last night, I finished Eternal Blue. I love the ending cutscene of that game so much!
                      Romantic sigh...
That being said I have beaten that game multiple time, but I have never speed-runned the epilogue like that before, I usually take my time and do all the optional dungeons, etc. When you take the time, it does feel more of an epic journey Hiro goes on to reunite to Lucia. Ah well.
My thoughts? All of those who watched probably know. I think the voice cast did an admirable job. Disturbing lack of Truitt though it was less noticeable in 2. Some voice were better, some were worse. The best new voices were the previously heavily modulated ones- Borgan, Zophar, Quark, Nall, ruby. Zophar probably fared best. Lunn sounded less racist.
The inventory QoL upgrades were chefs kiss and the battle speedup was handy. The upscaled visuals looked pretty. Overall, a nice little remaster. Nothing lifechanging, but nice.
I loved bringing Lunar to you folks, hope you enjoyed watching! I also want to hear what everyone else though about it.

Now that you have the perspective under your hat, which versions would you recommend to new players?

For someone who liked Old School RPGs and know what the experience entails? The original. For people who are new to the JRPG scene, maybe the remaster. It does feel like it's missing something. The lack of outtakes at the end was a big mistake, imo.
