Alright, im about to glaze the hell outta this game so prepare.
Imo expedition 33 is one of the most important titles to release in a great while. This is by far one of the best games I've played in several years and has insantly moved into my top 10 all time.
Now you're probably asking "Croft, why oh why do you think this game is so important?". Because the game quite frankly shouldn't exist.
A creator who decided to make his own game because he was "bored" working for ubisoft. Another writer who literally was an private equities investor beforehand might have helped write the GOTY. A musical composer they found off freaking SoundCloud/reddit. Its a series of unbelievable events that create a freaking masterpiece.
Everything in this game hits the right marks. The music is absolutely unbelievable, story is filled with twists that don't feel shoehorned in. No silly dialogue linking some real world social issue for no reason whatsoever. No tacked on unless battle pass or talk of dlc before the game even comes out. The game looks stunning in the overworld and every zone is completely unique with its own base theme and battle theme. The actual gameplay to me is a very fun active turnbased rpg that rewards skill and is still playable if you want to play a more traditional turn based rpg. Also (at least for most) the game just... works. And that seems to be something thats been harder and harder to come by (Mh:W comes to mind). Just today Minds eye was released and the game is just plain unplayable in this state.
Finally the game is only $50. $50 for a complete working title made by less than 35 people. $50 in a world with $80 mario kart and a chance for a $100 gta6. For a while I always blamed western devs for being lazy and not actually caring about good/fun games. Now im more confident that it's just straight up out of touch CEOs and private investor money ruining time tables. You dont need hundreds of devs at all to make a good title. Currently the game has 93 critic score and a 9.7 public score (after 19k reviews which is wild).
Tldr: ex33 is going to be GOTY. Its an excellent title priced very fairly and i HIGHLY recommend it.
