This thread is for discussion of all things Castlevania. This includes classic CV, Metroidvanias, the Netflix series, and even the Bloodstained series. To start us off, there is a mad lad out there who is trying to port Symphony of the Night to the Sega Genesis. The amount of progress they've made is really stunning. I hope it gets finished!

Castlevania is one of my oldest and most beloved jams. I've always loved the music from the franchise, I love music that heavily features the organ and harpsichord, and the classical/rock/gothic/ecumenical vibe is just my speed. I especially found the DS games to be a lot of fun, and SotN will always be close to perfect. It's influenced many games I played the hell out of, including Rogue Legacy. God that game was fun! Recently, I received Infernax as a gift, and I was really enjoying that one too. Definitely want to play more of it some time. -

I really wish we could get a "Castlevania DS" compilation sooner than later. I really want to replay Order of Ecclesia, but not sure I want to go through the effort of emulation.Comment

Ooh. I guess I should have expected them to be working on a sequel, but I never gave it much thought because they're still adding more to the base game here and there. Bloodstained is such a great game and I'm continually thrilled by it.

That would be great! Though, I wonder how they'll emulate the touch screen bits... All the DS games had touch screen mechanics, didn't they?Comment

Only Dawn of Sorrow makes you use it for in-game mechanics. And even then you can just use a mouse for those moments, or get a hack for the game that removes the stylus requirement altogether.Comment

Thanks for the offer, I might look into it in the future.
I think the main reason I haven't tried to emulate before now is the dual screen nature of the games. On the DS, having one screen specifically for the map was lovely, but I don't know how it would integrate to a single screen experience. I'm guessing maybe some emulators have an option to switch between screens when necessary? Because I'd rather have one screen up than both at once, on a normal monitor setup.Comment

I also was under the belief that Order of Ecclesia had some mandatory touch stuff, but it's been so long since I played it, maybe it wasn't mandatory.Comment

As far as I remember,
Dawn of Sorrow: using the stylus for magic circles and to destroy ice blocks.
Portrait of Ruin: Sisters Mode. Can also use stylus to send non-dominant character around screen?
Order of Ecclesia: Nothing; maybe a soul uses the stylus, but I don't remember.Comment

Never a bad time to replay Castlevania, honestly. They're not generally short, but they never overstay their welcome.1Comment
