🦸‍♀️ Comics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I have always liked TMNT since a young age, despite my mother not being a fan of these more "masculine" toys. I learned later of their connection with the area in which I grew up. I lived for a while in Dover, NH where Eastman and Laird lived together, and I live about 30 minutes away now.

This short movie came out just this month, and it's worth the 10-minute watch. I relate to the detail-oriented personality of Rich Horn, though I am nowhere near his level of accomplishment. Filmed in Southern Maine (I see you, Pizza by Alex!) it has some nostalgic call-outs.

I made this thread to talk about this video, but also about TMNT in general. What is everyone else's opinions of this franchise? I want to hear your stories.

Grew up with TMNT for sure. I still have a few of the original figurines boxed away and I don't have a lot from when I was a kid.

That dude has a jacked collection for sure. I've got a short stack. Mostly graphic novels, some of which are the old ones where they all had red masks and had the tendency to be ultra violent. The presentation definitely seemed to change a lot around the release of the original cartoon, which ran for a crazy long time for a cartoon at the time (10 seasons!). Sometimes when I take the kids to get some comics I'll pick up a TMNT issue but I generally tend to go the crossover route. The Ghostbuster and Usagi Yojimbo crossovers are pretty cool. Ghostbusters were probably my favorite franchise as a kid with TMNT a close second.

Screenwise I haven't really paid attention to the franchise since maybe the 90s movies, with the exception of Mutant Mayhem because my kids wanted to watch it (was pretty good). The Michael Bay reboot just looked terrible to me so I said no thanks to the lense flare / turtle combo.

It's always a nice nostalgia trip to see TMNT stuff.

Seconded. We should get a TMNT game night going.

I didn't read the comics, though I should. I did, however, have a TMNT-themed Christmas one year as a kid that is both one of my earliest memories as well as a favorite core memory in general. I've been a fan of the animation and games over the years since.

I'm in a monthly book club with some local friends where we all take a month to read the IDW Collection books of the ongoing comic series and talk about the highs and lows of it all. It's been an exceptionally good story so far! We are up to book #8, which we'll be getting together in Feb to discuss.

I really recommend the IDW Collection books. It's all of the comics - not just the main ongoing series but also the side series, micro series and one-shots all tied to the IDW canon - collected in recommended reading order for a really easy time keeping up with the whole story. It has my absolute favorite origin story of all iterations.

I loved the 1980's cartoon as a kid.

When I must have been 5 or 6, I saved up all of my pennies for months. I had lots of help from family members giving me spare change. This was my first lesson on money management, by saving money for a big purchase. We went to K-Mart and I handed in this big jar of coins. I feel bad for the poor cashier who helped me because it must have taken plenty of time to count it all out, but by the end, I had enough for a game.

I got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: the Hyperstone Heist. I played that game off and on for so many years, solo or with my cousins. I love that game so much! I would eventually play Turtles in Time and I think that's great too, but Hyperstone Heist is a more important game to me, personally.

I haven't had a chance to play Shredder's Revenge, but sometime I wanna check it out.

I recently played Hyperstone Heist for my first time a few years ago! It holds up, just like Turtles in Time for SNES, but in my opinion the SNES is better. It was the true arcade-to-console port, and it had extra levels that the arcade version didn't have, extra mechanics that the arcade version didn't have, and the story flowed more cohesively than the arcade version or Genesis spin-off did. Gameplay is pretty top notch across both console platforms!

Definitely check out Shredder's Revenge if you liked Hyperstone Heist!

Hyperstone Heist is like Konami said, "we want a TMNT game on Genesis, but we don't want to simply port Turtles in Time."

I was just looking up info online and apparently the devs of Shredder's Revenge, Tribute Games, are founded by former Ubisoft staff that had worked on the Scott Pilgrim game. I heavily recommend people check out that title too.

Oh shit, Tee Lopes does music for Shredder's Revenge? That makes me more curious about the game. Sonic Mania's OST is so good.

When my family got an SNES one glorious Christmas, my brother and I each got a game to call our own, and mine was Turtles in Time. I loved the graphics, the music, the voice clips, everything. I had a Nintendo Power subscription so I got the secret menu cheat too :P

I haven't replayed it in a very long time, but it remains my favorite TMNT game to this day.
