What a record breaking number. I expected it to do well, but not this well. Apparently in Japan alone, Switch 2 outsold the PS2 by nearly 1.5x, breaking through that PS2 record by a landslide. It's incredible to me that a system with really hardly any exclusive representation for itself outside of patches for existing Switch 1 games and Mario Kart has this many people hyped to upgrade to the new system.

I know for me, I always buy a new system even if I don't have something I want to play because I have faith there will be plenty of software down the line I will want to pick up. It's been a tried and true practice that's shown to be true for myself across every system I've bought so far in life. But I also know the majority of people don't consider purchases through faith. Could the upgrades to Switch 1 titles have been enough for these kinds of sales figures?

I hope for Nintendo's sake, the momentum continues. I don't know of too many people who have bought one, but they are obviously out there. Only time will tell!

I just think nintendo die hards will buy anything they release now. Nintendo has that community in absolute check. They got them to believe they didnt need any third party titles for years. My biggest issue is the accepting of 80$ titles possibly going forward. Further the attack on steamdeck from Nintendo fans because of how it has outsold the steamdeck. Attacking valve pretty much the most consumer friendly company while championing Nintendo is quite the stance

I'll buy pretty much anything, but I like being an early adopter if I feel like the product will become worth its salt over time. I missed the Steam Deck train, but I intend to buy an ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X because I have seen and heard enough to warrant it. Valve is super great right now, mostly because of Gabe, but once Gabe moves on (one way or another) from the company, who's to say how it will be? Just as Nintendo's shifted into a more outwardly greedy-feeling corporate entity with the passing of Iwata and retiring of Fils-Aime, I guarantee the shift in tone with Steam will be outwardly felt with new leadership. Nobody should be praising the companies and should instead really look more inward to see who's setting the precedent for the standards that make the company brand a household name.

"Attacking" feels like a matter of perspective. Steam Deck will always have a win over Nintendo because of the Steam library and the constant number of sales and affordability the software brings to the table opposed to the hardware... but the hardware price is truly the bar for entry, and the lower it gets the more eager people will be to purchase, superfan or not. These superfans celebrating this short-throw W is no different than people celebrating the winner of the FIFA world cup or something of that matter. It's just a cool win for now, but who's to say how it will be in a year?

Plus, I think it should be celebrated that Nintendo has finally released a system that can play with the big boys in the same generation. More competition is nice, in a world where Xbox is broadening into a service-based brand that's winding up on all platforms and Sony has a bit of an encroaching monopoly in the console space. PC Gaming will always be ahead of the curve, but you're talking about a high-maintenance amount of upkeep to keep up with the ever-changing standards, and the majority of people just don't give enough of a shit about it. The majority of people who want to play a game will turn to a simplified box that just plays the games they insert/download without thought before they worry about getting the best bang for their buck. The Xbox handheld will be a step in the right direction for handheld PCs in that regard, because Steam Deck and the other handhelds so far have only been able to market and cater to the enthusiast. But until the PC is a lot easier to approach from a casual gaming perspective, I wouldn't count on your standard console fans acknowledging all the benefits.
