I play a little bit of PSO on the dreamcast, but I don't remember it well. I'm looking for a video of it. Was it (a) https://youtu.be/kXLPM5A2LpQ?t=79m36s or (b) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFX3...B4%D0%B6%D0%B5 ?

I feel like you can't have a topic like this without bringing up the resident evil door loading screen. The best, probably not.. but it was really immersive.

Funny too that they pulled it from the NES game Sweet Home. Still worked all those years later!

I'm referring to the second one you posted, but rather upsettingly, they don't show the interaction you could have with it, whish was moving a cursor around with a starry effect. ground breaking? No. Satisfying? Immensely.

Metroid Prime is also worth mentioning because they masked loading screens with a brief 3rd person scene of Samus riding the elevator.

I'm surprised the Castlevania: SOTN load screen hasn't been mentioned yet. Always liked making the wavy text go still before the game was done loading.

I tried playing Sweet Home once in the past year but couldn't get too far because the controls felt stiff for me. The door opening, and then used again in Resident Evil, is pretty iconic.

SotN was brilliant in how it masked the load times by literally making the map part of them. Oh, you're not just going to a different area of the castle, you're loading up the music for the next area too!

I like to think back to Final Fantasy XIV 1.0. They loved to advertise it as being this huge game with no load times between areas, but to do that, they essentially did the same thing SotN did- masking it with "gameplay." Except the gameplay was essentially just running through a long corridor. Used to have to run across that entire bridge in Limsa Lominsa to get to Middle La Noscea, and no, it didn't exactly add much of substance. It was neat from a realism standpoint, having to run across a big bridge in real-time, but in hindsight I don't miss it much.

I just saw that we are getting another Endless Ocean game and remembered that ocean descent load screen.

Nothing better then the relaxing bubbles and scuba ventilator sounds to get ready for vigorous fish rubbing. 🐟✋
Buy Endless Ocean™ Luminous and shop other great Nintendo products online at the official My Nintendo Store.
